Paros is part of Cyclades and it is almost at the center of the island complex, a bit west of Naxos. Paros is a relatively large island, as it is the third largest in Cyclades after Naxos and Andros.
The capital of Paros is Parikia which strangely is not called Chora like it happens in most Greek islands. The last few years the settlement of Naousa has had a lot of tourist development, threatening to overthrow Parikia, being built around a scenic harbor.
Paros is a vivid island favored by young people due to the watersports (windsurfing world championships are held every year on Paros) and the vibrant nightlife. Paros is also suitable for quiet family vacations as it is not a small island, thus having several peaceful villages and beaches for those who want to avoid the crowds.
Paros is known from the ancient times thanks to the famous Parian marble, the so-called lyhniti, a white type of marble of excellent quality (it has a transparency of 3,5 mm) from which many masterpieces of the Ancient Greece have been made, like the Hermes of Praxiteles and the Venus de Milo.
